When Steven Smith, J.D. (“Solar Steve Esquire”) first got into the solar business he worked and interviewed at several Valley solar companies, and quickly noticed there was an extreme lack of professionalism, honesty, diligence, and customer service in the industry. Most solar company owners are relatively young and/or unqualified, with no prior professional experience in business ownership and management.
Problems with the Industry
We are currently in what some people call the “gold rush” of residential solar, as customer interest, combined with high profit and commission potential, with the complete absence of regulation, has coalesced into an environment where anyone can enter the industry and make an exorbitant amount of money quickly. However, since there is zero regulation in the industry, and there are absolutely no requirements to sell residential solar, this environment has attracted the worst types of people, including felons, liars, con-artists, cheaters, and the like. It’s as if they took the quintessential slimy salesperson and gave him/her the opportunity to make even more money with his/her lies and manipulation.
That is the typical solar salesperson in the industry today. These types of salespeople are also the business owners of most solar sales and installation companies, and hundreds of solar companies come and go every year in the Phoenix area. This all coalesces into an industry where customers are often taken advantage of, lied to, ripped off, and hurt in profound ways.

Steve started Phoenix Solar Panel Systems to provide something sorely needed in the solar industry: a company committed to Honesty, Integrity, and Transparency. Most solar business owners take the “get-rich-quick” approach concerned only with short-term success at the cost of long-term success, and this creates a win-lose environment where customers and employees alike are taken advantage of, misled, and ripped off.
Steve’s company is the opposite. Phoenix Solar Panel Systems is focused solely on long-term success, and there is only one way to attain that: Treating everyone professionally, fairly, and honestly while establishing long-term mutually beneficial relationships with customers and employees alike.

At Phoenix Solar Panel Systems, we are in the people business, not the solar business. Our main goal is to clean up the residential solar industry, and we accomplish this through educating, not selling our customers on the benefits and costs of purchasing a solar system for their home, in addition to every aspect of the business.
We always present all the positives and negatives of going solar to our customers, so they can make a highly educated and informed decision on what is best for them and their family. A solar salesperson that will only tell you the positives, and will even lie to you, steals your ability to make the best decision for you and your family as you don’t have all the information!
