SRP Solar Price Plans in the Phoenix, Arizona Area
Here we will discuss SRP’s solar price plans in the Phoenix, Arizona area.
Choosing an SRP Solar Plan
- Choosing an SRP Solar Plan can be simplified. If you and your family can keep your peak demand low during on-peak times (or you purchase a Demand Management System), you should choose either the Residential Demand or Customer Generation plans to take advantage of the lower energy charges. If you and your family are NOT able to keep your peak demand low during on-peak times (and do not purchase a Demand Management System), you should choose either the Time-Of-Use Export or Electric Vehicle Export plans to avoid on-peak demand charges.
- Since SRP’s on-peak demand charges occur during the time of day when most families use the most energy, it takes discipline and planning (or a Demand Management System) to keep demand charges low. Customers should consider whether everyone in the household wants to, or is able to, stagger (or refrain from) the use of major appliances during on-peak times.
- A customer’s savings after going solar is dependent upon the customer selecting the correct SRP solar plan and the entire household adhering to a money saving commitment of energy use. Being disciplined and consistent can lead to massive savings on electricity. However, those customers who do not mindfully choose and adhere to the correct SRP solar plan will see little to no savings from going solar, or possibly even pay more.
- SRP has six (6) holidays where off-peak rates apply all day long:
- New Year’s Day (observed)
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day (observed)
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day (observed)

Time-of-Use Export SRP Solar Plan
- On this plan, SRP charges a Grid access charge for solar customers of $32.44 per month for most homes. On very large homes, the gird access charge may be $45.44 per month.
- The Time-of-Use Export plan is known as a “time of use” plan, meaning that SRP charges different rates for different times and days of the week. Those who want to save money should try to use their major appliances and energy outside of “on-peak” times.
- All time of use plans have periods where the rate is substantially increased. These high-rate periods are set when most of the population uses their energy the most.
Winter (November to April)
- Off–peak: all other hours, including weekends and six observed holidays.
- On-peak: Weekdays 5:00AM to 9:00AM and 5:00PM to 9:00PM
Summer (May to October)
- Off–peak: all other hours, including weekends and six observed holidays.
- On-peak: Weekdays 2:00PM to 8:00PM
- s you can see, the on-peak times are set when the kids are getting home from school and the adults are getting home from work. If everyone gets home and uses a lot of energy all at once, it could result in solar owners having to pay SRP money when they otherwise would not have to. Even though customers have gone solar, they still should be conscious and conservative with their energy use during on-peak times, or else they will have to pay SRP for extra energy consumption.

Electric Vehicle Export SRP Solar Plan
- The Electric Vehicle Export plan does not have an on-peak demand charge and is best for customers that own electric vehicles and want to charge them at night. This plan is almost identical to the Time-Of-Use Export Plan, but it adds the low cost Super Off-Peak hours from 11:00PM to 5:00AM to allow customers to charge their electric vehicles for cheap during these times. When charging their vehicles on this plan, customers should use a timer that charges the vehicle only during the Super Off-Peak times.
- Customers can also set their timer-based appliances like the dishwasher and pool pump to run during the Super Off-Peak hours to save money.

Average Demand SRP Solar Plan
- This plan has a “demand charge” that is averaged over the entire billing period. SRP tracks every day of the billing period and the 30-minute period during on-peak where the home used the most amount of electricity. At the end of the billing period, all the highest on-peak 30-minute periods from each day are averaged together and then multiplied by a charge to calculate the homeowner’s demand charge for that month. Demand charges vary based on the time of year.
- Since this plan averages all the peak demands over the billing period, it is a good plan for families that occasionally have big variations in their demand. For example, a family typically has a peak demand of 5 kW but occasionally the demand goes to 10 kW or more. On this plan, the family won’t be punished for those few days the demand was high during on-peak times because all the days are averaged out.

Customer Generation SRP Solar Plan
- The Customer Generation plan is one of the more popular SRP solar plans because it offers the lowest energy charges of any SRP residential plan.
- The trade-off for lower energy charges is a demand charge that is different than the Average Demand plan. Instead of the demand charge being an average of all the highest 30-minute peak demands of every day in the billing cycle, the Customer Generation plan takes the very highest 30-minute peak kW demand and multiplies that by the demand charge. Because the demand charge is not an average of many days, but instead the highest 30-minute period during all the days in the billing cycle, this can result in much higher demand charges on your bill.
- Due to this possibility of having very high demand charges, some customers opt to purchase a Demand Management System to limit their home’s energy usage during on-peak times while also enjoying the very low energy charge rates of the Customer Generation plan.
